From High School to Job Success—Thanks TERRA

Starting a career straight out of high school may not always go as planned. But for Austin Klapthor, the unexpected turned into a great opportunity. 

Let’s hear from Austin himself. 

I had a part-time job when I was in high school, and I wanted to eventually work there full-time. I told them that I’d finish school and graduate early so that I could come and work for them. I was driving about an hour to work the night shift and I was totally willing to keep doing that. I just wanted to work. 

I did graduate early and, unfortunately, they turned me down, which was really disappointing because I was excited to work full-time.  

So, the next morning, I hopped on the computer and started looking for jobs. My dad was sitting with me, and we were brainstorming thinking of places where I could work. When I applied for this warehouse job in Scottsdale, he literally said that he had a good feeling about it.  

Sure enough, I got a call and talked to Megan Smith, a recruiter there, who explained that job I applied to required like years and years of experience working in a warehouse—experience I don’t have yet. But she thought she could get me started as a Material Handler at this distribution company.  

I didn’t even have to interview with the company, I just started working right away! 

I’ve been working here for a few weeks now and so far, it’s great. I have a day shift schedule, which is so much better. I’m getting a lot of training to learn how to use their equipment and I’ll have even more training soon. And Megan checks up on me to see how I’m liking the job.  

And aside from the training, I feel like the best part about the job is that everybody here is cool, like everyone’s able to laugh. I have no complaints at all.
